The Rise of Book Bans

November’s equity resource comes from the Tangletown Neighborhood Association’s Equity Committee co-chair, Dirk Nicholson:

“For November, we are back in my podcast library! This month, I’m recommending another episode of The Ezra Klein Show, “America’s Top Librarian on the Rise of Book Bans.” This episode is guest-hosted by Tressie McMillan Cottom, a columnist for NYT Opinion and U.N.C. Chapel Hill professor, and is a great conversation with Emily Drabinski, the president of the American Library Association and associate professor at the Queens College Graduate School of Library and Information studies. Considering the momentum around censoring and banning books—frequently, those concerning the histories and experience of black, queer, and trans people—it seems increasingly relevant to center the role of libraries and librarians in our schools and our communities more broadly.”
