June 2024 Board Meeting Minutes

June 17, 2024 TNA meeting:

Attendees, board members: Rob Bedeaux, Claire Blanchette, Heather Grovum, Bill O’Brien, Pat Prochaska, Steph Smith, and Will Young

Attendees, non-board members: Andrea Siegel, Ryan Fisher, Ellen Block, and Jim Blackwood

Online before the meeting Mark Tiede moved to approve the spending of $1200 for the door knocking contract and further, in order to accommodate this expense, to move $125 from the FY2024 Professional Contractors account.”  Will seconded the motion and called the vote.  Keri Diem, Ian Stade, Rob, Mark, Pat, Heather, and Will voted yes.  Motion passed.

  1. Councilmember Koski:
    1. No updates
  2. Fuller Park:
    1. Art Fair scheduled for 9-2 on June 29 at same time as E-Waste Event
  3. Board Appointment
    1. Jim Blackwood introduced himself and asked to join the board
    2. Heather moved to appoint Jim Blackwood join the board, Pat seconded; passed unanimously.
  4. Secretary update:
    1. Heather moved to pass the March minutes, Claire seconded; passed unanimously
  5. Treasurer update:
    1. Usual monthly expenses incurred in May
    2. $1,007 received from compost distribution covered all costs
  6. Executive Committee appointments
    1. Will and Pat offered to return as Secretary and Treasurer
    2. Heather and Rob offered to serve as President and Vice President
    3. Will moved to put forward that slate of committee members, Pat seconded; passed unanimously
    4. Will, Claire, and Dan Treinan will help edit newsletters
  7. Intercultural Development Inventory
    1. Ellen Block will administer and explained the process
    2. Helps understand cultural differences and similarities
    3. 50 question survey that takes about 20 minutes
      1. Identifies strengths and development opportunities when interacting with people from cultural other than your own
      2. Provides quantitative and descriptive reports
    4. Ellen will have a group debrief in August shortly after survey was taken
      1. She will not share individual results unless requested
      2. Will help learn about TNA’s orientation gap (developmental orientation compared to perceived orientation)
  8. Summer Party
    1. Long discussion about serving Sebastian Joe’s ice cream and sno cones
      1. We will sell tickets ($4 for ice cream – 2 tickets, or $2 for sno cones – 1 ticket) at different table
    2. Sign-up sheet will be sent out soon
  9. Committee Updates
    1. Equity
      1. Bus tour scheduled for September 21
      2. Tickets will be sold soon an also seeking donations
      3. Trying to find out ways to get more involved
      4. New survey simplified from 2022 version and questions approved
        1. Enough votes to approve canvassers but scheduling has been difficult
        2. Hoping to have 4 shifts of door knockers focusing on rental properties with 4 units or fewer
        3. Will also send postcards with link to the survey via direct mail
    2. Environmental
      1. E-Waste collection event from 9-noon on September 25 at Fuller Park
        1. Behind on volunteers
      2. Strollers for Health collaboration with Kiwi Collaborative where we host a drop-off for strollers
      3. Lots of solar rebate money still available
      4. Ned volunteers to monitor the Fuller Park garden
      5. Clothing swap will be August 24 at St. John’s
    3. BLUH
      1. Will moved to have committee renamed to Neighborhood Development & Engagement, Pat P seconded; passed unanimously
      2. Summer Party has been main focus
  10. Southwest Neighborhood Collaborative
    1. Retreat at end of May with other neighborhoods
    2. Focus group responses were reviewed
    3. Trying to identify ways to cross-promote programming
