From Equity Task Force Member Stijn Vanhauwaert: “Not having grown up in this country, I felt that I have never fully appreciated the severity of racism in the United States. There are some great podcasts out there, like 1619 and Silence is not an Option, that cover the width and depth of structural racism. What really struck after virtually visiting the the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia was how deeply rooted some of these basic and horrific attitudes have been towards Black people. Portraying Black people as coons or villains, but never as complete humans that strive for the same things in life as every other human being.” -Stijn Vanhauwaert, Equity Task Force Member
