What a deal for home improvement, our tight budget, and the environment!!! Last spring I noted in the Tangletown newsletter an opportunity to have insulation put in our home walls for a NO-INTEREST LOAN to be paid back over 5 years. PLUS, The Tangletown Neighborhood Association gave us a $500 rebate for doing the work on top of the $500 rebate from CenterPoint. We bit after learning more about the benefits, prep and aftermath, including a warmer home in the winter and lower gas bills.
I am happy to report that we couldn’t be happier with our newly insulated walls! We live in a hundred year old arts & crafts home on the 4600 block of Nicollet, and have lived here for 21 yrs. Our house had been cold in the winter despite the insulation we put in the roof. Now that we’ve had the walls insulated, for the first time, our floors are not freezing cold in January, and the temperature throughout the house is more even. We are also using less gas, which has decreased our energy bills. Our loan repayment is about $100 per month for 5 years. We used the rebate to pay down other bills.
Now, I won’t lie, we had to do a lot of prep before the work start date, and there was interior cleaning, sanding and painting to do afterwards. The insulation was put in from the inside in places, and the outside in other places. I was pleased with the stucco match on the exterior! It was a pain, BUT IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!!
