Financial incentives for installing solar panels?

Dear Sam,

I am considering installing solar panels on my roof. I heard that there might be a financial incentive from the neighborhood association for doing so. Do you have more information about this?

Best,

Nathan

Dear Nathan,

Thank you so much for reaching out and asking this question! Yes! The Environmental Committee of the Tangletown Neighborhood Association is offering a rooftop solar rebate to incentivize property owners within the Tangletown neighborhood to have solar panels installed on their property by a licensed contractor between February 1st 2023 and January 31st 2024. Tangletown’s rebate, when paired with the federal tax credit for solar photovoltaics, can significantly reduce the cost of installing rooftop solar for most property owners.

There is limited funding for this program, so I encourage property owners to get pre-approved for the funds. The rebate is tiered to create equitable access for Tangletown residents with lower household incomes. One rebate is allowed per household, and the rebate may not exceed the amount spent on the solar panel project. Renters are highly encouraged to share the rebate information with their property owners and encourage them to apply.

The tier breakdown will be as follows:

  • Applicants with a total household income under $75,000 will receive up to $1,500
  • Applicants with a total household income between $75,001 and $150,000 will receive up to $1,000
  • Applicants with a total household income over $150,001 will receive up to $500
