February 2024 Board Meeting Minutes

February 1, 2024 TNA meeting:

Attendees, board members: Claire Blanchette, Pat Collins, Heather Grovum, Mark Tiede, Dan Treinen, and Will Young

Attendees, non-board members: Andrea Siegel

Called to order at 7:09

  1. Councilmember Koski:
    1. The demolition of 400 Prospect will proceed as requested by the owner
  2. Fuller Park update:
    1. Summer registration begins on February 21 at noon
    2. There will be an Easter egg hunt on March 30 between 9-1130am with craft projects and breakfast snacks
  3. Secretary update:
    1. Dan moved to pass the January minutes; Claire seconded.  Passed unanimously.
  4. Treasurer update:
    1. Only expense in January was ED salary
  5. MFT letter
    1. Letter was already presented to the School Board before the meeting without TNA’s involvement
    2. Board discussed the effectiveness of the letter
    3. If MFT asks again for support or if a board member requests, then board will consider symbolic act of signing onto letter, but no action taken at meeting
  6. NRP Policy Board
    1. Becky McIntosh elected district representative for area covering Tangletown
    2. TNA had voted for the only two presented candidates for the at-large spots, but unsure if they were elected
  7. Neighborhood Day
    1. Will be May 11 for the city, but we will keep a May 18 event like last year and call it our Neighborhood Day event
    2. We have moved money into events to engage the community and could use it for board recruitment before the elections the following week
  8. Annual Report for NCR
    1. Heather moved to approve the draft report; Dan seconded.  Passed unanimously.
  9. Affordable Housing Collaborative
    1. Several neighborhoods have contributed $25,000, and Kingfield has contributed $100,000
    2. Focus will be communicating/collaborating with city about the former Kmart site
  10. 2024 Fundraising
    1. Discussed forming a fundraising committee
      1. Discussed whether one-year focus or ongoing push
    2. No specifically planned money in the budget to hire someone to teach fundraising techniques
    3. SW Collaborative will hopefully tie TNA into a fundraising, grant process
    4. Linden Hills recently had successful fundraising initiative, so we will try to learn how they succeeded
  11. Committee Updates
    1. Environmental
      1. Fix-It Clinic had 24 attendees among 62 registrations
      2. Planning a Lunch and Learn event about Longevity for Tech for March 23 at Fuller Park
        1. Will have food and giveaways
      3. Recycling facility tourt will be April 20 with room for up to 20 people
      4. Compost event at Mayflower on May 18
      5. 7 commitment cards recently collective at La Dona
      6. Solar rebate program extended to December 31 with $10,500 still available
    2. Building, Land Use, and Housing
      1. WinterFest about to occur
      2. Safety and Security Discussion with MPD on March 20 
      3. Will join the Neighborhood Day evening on May 18 with more yard bags, master gardener(s), perhaps another raffle
      4. Summer Party will occur in late July partnering with Fuller Park again rather than July 4
    3. Equity
      1. Multi-neighborhood coalition is hosting an environmental justice bus tour and committee would like to participate
      2. Cost would be $600/neighborhood
    4. SW Neighborhood Collaborative
      1. Kickoff event occurred with the consultant
      2. Reviewing all documents to find the similarities/differences between the neighborhood organizations to then settle on a shared purpose for the collaboration
      3. Planning to survey all stakeholders seeking info by end of March
  12. Executive Director Report
    1. Provided electronically
  13. Nicollet Avenue Bridge Resotration
    1. By email after the meeting Mark moved via email to have the TNA sign onto a letter of support for the Nicollet Avenue Bridge Restoration project
      1. Heather seconded
      2. Mark, Heather, Dan, Pat C, Steph, and Pat P voted in support of the motion
      3. No votes against motion
    2. Motion passed
