The monthly equity resource comes to you from a new Equity Committee member Shannon Mitchell. The resource pairs with the mapping resources the Tangletown Neighborhood Association has previously shared. After reviewing the mapping resources, she became curious about the home she had just moved into. The following resource allowed her to look up her property to determine whether or not there were any racial covenants. The City of Minneapolis offers a Just Deeds Project to assist people in removing these covenants from their properties. This recent national story includes one Minnesota woman’s fight to remove racial covenants from her property title, highlighting the importance of both learning and taking action to make our communities anti-racist.
Lastly, To put these covenants into a broader context, this webinar — Facing Forward–– discusses local and federal policies that have dramatically impacted housing and access to resources.
